About the course
Marrickville Golf, Sporting & Community Club sits on the banks of the Cooks River in Sydney's Inner West, about 12 kilometres from the CBD. Marrickville Council acquired the riverside land in 1910, and a nine-hole course built as a Depression relief project opened on 30 November 1940. Local golfers formed the club in 1941, and a second nine opened on 28 November 1954, marked by an exhibition match featuring Kel Nagle.
The course is a par 60 for men and 62 for women and is a little under 4,000 metres long. The club describes it as suited to all ages and abilities, though it asks for accurate tee shots and a sharp short game. The club also offers disc golf.
The course is public and open seven days from daylight to dusk. Weekday green fees are $38 for 18 holes and $28 for nine, rising to $45 and $31 on weekends and public holidays. Twilight golf, after 3pm daily except public holidays, is $25 for unlimited holes. Carts cost $42 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, booked ahead with the pro shop. Tee times can be booked online. Casual play fits around these regular events:
- Wednesday: a social nine-hole group, no handicap needed, bookings essential.
- Thursday: a veterans' competition for players aged 50 and over, sunrise to 9:30am.
- Saturday: competition golf from sunrise to 11:30am.
- Sunday: competition golf from 9am to 11am.
Neat casual dress is required. Practice facilities include nets, a putting green and a chipping area, and the pro shop offers one-on-one, group and on-course lessons. The clubhouse has a balcony overlooking the course, a licensed bar serving local beers, and the Wharf St Kitchen cafe and bistro, open Wednesday to Sunday.
