About the course
Carnarvon Golf Club in Lidcombe, in Sydney's west, traces its start to 1927, when golf was played informally before the club held its first annual general meeting in August 1928. The original course north of Parramatta Road took its name from a Carnarvon Hill Estate sign advertising factory sites, and the club moved twice more, including a wartime shift when the US Navy took over its clubhouse in 1943. The present course was designed by Arthur East, built between 1947 and 1949 on the former Lidcombe showground and a hospital grazing paddock, and opened in December 1949. The current clubhouse dates from 1999.
The 18-hole parkland layout is lined with gums and pines and opens with a gentle par 5. Several holes have new tees, bunkers or reshaped greens from recent renovations.
- 2nd: the hardest hole, a long par 4 with a blind tee shot over a rise to a bunkerless green.
- 4th: the longest hole, a par 5 that falls into a valley before climbing to a narrow green.
- 12th: an exposed uphill par 3 that usually plays into the prevailing south-westerly.
- 18th: a par 4 closer with a lake in range from the tee and a bunkerless green with a false front.
Public golfers register online as public members and book tee times up to 30 days ahead. Public times are all day Monday, from 3pm Tuesday, from midday Wednesday and Thursday, early morning and from midday Friday, and after 3pm on weekends and public holidays. Green fees, effective 1 December 2025, are $55 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, with twilight golf after 3pm and seniors rates at $40, and a midweek deal of $130 for two players with a cart.
The pro shop is open daily from 6am to 5.30pm, stocks major brands, and offers lessons, club repairs and fitting in its simulator studio. The clubhouse has a restaurant and function rooms, and a dress code applies.
Green fees
Twilight $40 after 3pm; seniors $40; 2 players + cart $130 midweek; public times restricted. Junior (16 years and under) $20 for 18 holes, $15 for 9 holes.
