About the course
Cronulla Golf Club is at the corner of Hume and Elouera Roads in Cronulla, in Sydney's Sutherland Shire. Golf was first played in the town in 1921 on a makeshift course that started behind the Cronulla Hotel, and a nine-hole course on the present site was officially opened by Sir William Vicars on 15 December 1923. Adjoining swampland bought in the 1940s allowed the course to grow to 12 holes in 1953, 14 in 1956 and a full 18 on 8 June 1957. In 1970 the club staged the Endeavour Masters, won by Guy Wolstenholme.
The 18-hole course is relatively flat, with tree-lined fairways, water hazards and plenty of bunkers. Large parts were raised from 1966 to stop flooding, and five new holes opened in 2010 as the first stage of a course master plan. Since 2011 the course has been irrigated with recycled water from the Cronulla sewage treatment plant.
Cronulla is a private members' club, but unaccompanied visitors with a current Golf ID or proof of club membership can request tee times on Mondays at 10am and Wednesdays from midday, subject to availability, through the booking request form on the club website. The unaccompanied visitor fee is $110 for 18 holes, with twilight golf after 3pm at $55 and juniors aged 12 to 17 at $30. Motorised carts can be requested for $60. Members of reciprocal clubs living more than 40 kilometres away pay $45, though numbers may be limited from May to August. Collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers and soft-spike shoes are required, and denim and cargo pants are not allowed.
Club One, the club's indoor coaching and fitting studio, has two simulators, Trackman and a SAM PuttLab, with lessons from Alison Golf's PGA professionals open to the public. The pro shop opens from 6.30am Tuesday to Sunday and 8.30am on Mondays. The clubhouse, renovated in 2014, has bars and Mike's Grill, which serves lunch and dinner Wednesday to Sunday.
