About the course
New South Wales Golf Club sits on the cliffs of Henry Head at La Perouse, inside Kamay Botany Bay National Park, overlooking the entrance to Botany Bay where Captain James Cook landed in 1770. The club's guest brochure puts it about 20 minutes from the Sydney CBD and 15 minutes from the airport. The course opened in 1928 to a routing by Dr Alister MacKenzie and was recently remastered by Mackenzie & Ebert.
It is a par 72 of undulating fairways over rugged coastal ground. About 16 hectares of critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub are scattered through the course in some 21 fragments. The club highlights the 5th and 6th holes, the 6th recently renovated, and the run of par 4s from the 13th to the 16th.
NSW Golf Club is a private club. Subject to special events, it offers a limited number of unaccompanied weekday tee times to visitors who live outside New South Wales; NSW residents cannot play as unaccompanied guests, and weekend golf is only possible when invited by a member. The maximum recommended handicap is 27. Tee times are requested online and book out well ahead. The 2026 fee schedule lists a green fee of $950 per person for international guests, and a forecaddie is compulsory for groups of four or more. Carts ($60) are only available with a doctor's certificate, and walking with a caddie is encouraged. The club's dress code applies.
Guests can use the driving range, putting and chipping greens, golf shop and a locker in the members' locker room. The practice facility also has a short game area, two indoor teaching studios and a SAM PuttLab studio, and PGA professionals teach seven days a week, from $180 an hour for visitors. The cashless clubhouse has a café, bar and dining rooms.
