About the course
Georges River Golf Course is on Henry Lawson Drive at Georges Hall in Sydney's south-west, with easy access from the M5. It is aimed squarely at social golfers, with membership offered without a joining fee, and the clubhouse veranda looks over the 18th green.
The 18-hole layout plays to par 70 over 5640 metres, with open fairways, six par 3s and four par 5s. Several holes finish on small greens, and out of bounds runs along the left of the 10th, 13th, 17th and 18th.
- 8th: a 382-metre par 4 rated the hardest hole, with an uphill approach that must thread between overhanging trees.
- 12th: a 172-metre par 3 that the club calls its likely signature hole, with a dam around the back and sides of a narrow green and bunkers left and right.
- 18th: a 392-metre dog-leg right where the second shot has to carry a dip in front of a bunkered green.
The course is open to the public every day except Christmas Day, and tee times can be booked online. Weekday green fees are $35 for 18 holes and $23 for nine, with $47 for 18 holes on weekends and public holidays. Seniors pay $27 midweek ($25 on Tuesdays and Thursdays), and children under 16 play free midweek with a playing adult. Carts are $40 for 18 holes midweek ($45 on weekends) and $30 for nine. Members and open competitions run on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with a women's competition on Thursday mornings. Shirts must have collars and be tucked in, and metal spikes are not allowed.
A full-length day-only driving range sits beside the course with 10 covered bays and a grass practice area; buckets cost $16 and $21. PGA professional Ken Trimble gives lessons, and the pro shop opens seven days with hire clubs, repairs, drinks and snacks. The clubhouse restaurant is closed on Mondays and serves lunch from Tuesday to Sunday.
