About the course
Gilgandra Golf Club is on Racecourse Road in Gilgandra, the Castlereagh River town in the central west of New South Wales known as the Town of the Windmills. The town sits where the Newell, Oxley and Castlereagh highways meet, roughly five and a half hours' drive north-west of Sydney and about 40 minutes from the Warrumbungle Mountains. The club celebrated its centenary in 2023.
The course has 10 holes with grass greens and 18 sets of tees, so the second loop is played from different tee positions. It plays to par 68 for men and par 72 for women. From the white tees it measures 5,415 metres (scratch rating 66, slope 108), and from the red tees 5,156 metres (rating 70, slope 113).
Club competitions are usually played on weekends with a tee-off around 1pm, and the competition fee is $20. Golf NSW lists social golf as available on every day of the week. Social green fees are not published online, so contact the club on 02 6847 2426 before visiting; the club also runs a Facebook group.
Gilgandra has accommodation for a range of budgets, plus museums, walks and the Coo-ee Heritage Centre, which tells the story of the 1915 Coo-ee recruiting march to Sydney, so the town works as a base for touring the region.
