About the course

Gunning Golf Club plays on a nine-hole course off Gundaroo Road, about a kilometre south of the village centre and roughly 500 metres south of the westbound freeway on-ramp towards Yass. Gunning is a village of about 500 people in the Southern Tablelands, around 580 metres above sea level, roughly 40 km east of Yass, 50 km west of Goulburn, 75 km north of Canberra and 260 km south-west of Sydney.

The course measures 2,781 metres and plays to a par of 35. There are two par 3s of 141 to 172 metres, six par 4s of 256 to 390 metres, and one par 5, the 433-metre 7th. Alternate tees allow an 18-hole round, which changes the length and par of some holes. The putting surfaces are black soil scrapes rather than grass greens. There are no bunkers: a natural gully and creek cross the course and up to four dams come into play. The layout is fairly open, with few trees and natural grass fairways, and low-lying parts can become waterlogged after heavy rain.

Casual golfers are welcome. The course is open 24 hours a day, every day, and the club suggests teeing off no later than four hours before sunset. The green fee is $5, paid into the honesty box at the clubhouse door. Memberships are available, and the club takes enquiries by email at gunninggcevents@gmail.com.
