About the course
Gungahlin Lakes Golf & Community Club, known locally as The Lakes, covers more than 70 hectares at 110 Gundaroo Drive, Nicholls, and is run by the Ainslie Group. The club reports more than 23,000 rounds of golf a year.
The 18-hole course is par 72, with 36 on each nine in the club's course guide. Lakes and ponds bring water carries into play across fairways and in front of greens, and they also supply water to keep the course in condition through the year.
- 9th: a 314-metre par 4 rated the easiest hole, with a hidden fairway bunker on the right.
- 11th: a 192-metre par 3 over a creek to a large two-tiered green.
- 14th: a short 276-metre par 4 bending around water, where a drive pulled left brings out of bounds and trees into play.
- 16th: the longest hole, a 511-metre par 5.
It is a public course. Public bookings are made online and paid when booking, and the online calendar shows weekend rates of $65 for 18 holes and $42 for nine. Visitors with a Golflink handicap can enter the Tuesday open competition for $20 if they have played a competition round at their home club in the last 60 days, or $49 including the green fee if they have not. Collared shirts are required, and board shorts, T-shirts, tracksuits, singlets, fluoro workwear and activewear are not allowed. Each player must have their own clubs.
Facilities include a 280-metre driving range, a pro shop with club fitting and cart hire, and a Turbo Golf indoor simulator. PGA professionals give lessons from $90 for half an hour. The clubhouse opens daily from 10am, with the Lakes Bistro, a pizza and burger counter from midday, a cafe and a children's playroom.
