About the course
Yass Golf Club is on Worth Street in Yass. It celebrated its centenary in 2003 and describes itself as the 29th oldest course in New South Wales.
The fully irrigated 18-hole course has grass greens, measures 5,193 metres and plays to par 68, with a slope rating of 112. It is short on paper, but undulating fairways, tree-lined holes, blind approaches and greens with real break make it more demanding than the length suggests. There are only two par 5s, the 7th and the 18th.
- 9th: a downhill par 4 where the tee shot must stay clear of "Norm's Tree" on the left.
- 13th: a blind par 4 that long hitters can reach from the tee, so players wait for the bell before driving; out of bounds runs along Links Road on the left.
- 18th: a par 5 finish with out of bounds on the right and a two-tier green that big hitters can reach in two.
Visitors pay $45 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, and cart hire costs the same again. Tee times can be booked through the club's online public booking system or by calling the golf shop on 02 6226 1977. The golf shop opens 8am to 4pm on weekdays and from 7am on weekends; it sells balls, gloves and club-branded clothing, hires carts with drinks and snacks available, and takes enquiries about corporate, social and competition days.
The clubhouse opens Wednesday to Sunday from 11am, with a sports bar, a lounge overlooking the course, a leafy outdoor area with barbecues, a gaming room and a function room. The Flagstick Bistro serves Aussie-Asian dishes for lunch (12pm to 2.30pm) and dinner (5.30pm to 8.30pm) Wednesday to Sunday, to eat in or take away.
