About the course

Hay Golf Club sits on the southern bank of the Murrumbidgee River at Hay, close to the open country of the Hay Plains. The course is part of the Hay Bowling & Golf Club, which also runs a bowling club in town at 408 Murray Street, and it hosted the 2018 NSW Sand Green Championships.

The course has 18 holes with sand greens and plays to a par of 72. From the blue tees it measures 6068 metres, with a red tee course of 5228 metres. The longest holes include the 512-metre 4th and the 492-metre 18th, both par 5s, while the 116-metre 7th is the shortest of the four par 3s.

Visitors are welcome, and the club asks players to make contact before arriving. Green fees are not published online. Competition times shift with daylight saving and the seasons:

  • Saturday: noon hit-off from March to mid-November; in summer an early start between 8.30 and 9.30 am, with a choice of 10 or 18 holes.
  • Sunday: women's competition, 10.30 am hit-off.
  • Wednesday: veterans, noon hit-off from March to November and 8.30 am from December to February.

The Golf Club building is a private function centre with a large outdoor deck overlooking the course and the river, and it can be hired for events. Meals are served at the bowling club's bistro, which offers Chinese and Australian dishes for lunch and dinner seven days a week, and the bowling club is open daily for members and guests.
