About the course
Penrith Golf Club sits on The Northern Road about 6 km from the Penrith CBD and 700 metres from the M4 Motorway, with the Blue Mountains on the horizon. The clubhouse opened in 1997, and the club belongs to the Seven Hills RSL group. The course has hosted the Australian Seniors PGA Championship, the NSW Open, the NSW PGA and the NSW Junior Boys Championship, and the course record of 63 belongs to former club professional and life member Graeme Abbott.
The 18 holes play to par 72 over 6,247 metres, on couch fairways with mixed bent and poa greens. Water is in play on many holes, and several have out of bounds along one side.
- 1st: a 499-metre par 5 from the blue tees, with water to clear from the tee and a steep slope at the front of the green.
- 9th: a 414-metre uphill par 4 to a narrow green that falls sharply from back to front.
- 11th: a 195-metre par 3 to a kidney-shaped green with water on the left.
The course is open to the public seven days a week. Social times are all day Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Monday from 10am, Wednesday from 1pm and weekends from 3pm. Bookings are essential through the pro shop on (02) 4736 1613, and walk-ups are not accepted. Weekday fees are $35 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, or $45 and $30 on weekends and public holidays, and twilight golf costs $20 after 3pm (4pm in daylight saving). Handicapped visitors can enter most competitions, including the Wednesday, Friday and Sunday open medleys; Saturday is for members.
The pro shop hires motorised carts, pull buggies and clubs, and offers club fitting, repairs and PGA lessons. The clubhouse bistro, The Fairway, opens from 10am daily.
