About the course
Springwood Country Club is on Hawkesbury Road in Springwood, in the lower Blue Mountains about an hour west of Sydney and 371 metres above sea level. The club dates from September 1905, when a nine-hole course was laid out on donated orchard land, and a pear tree from that orchard still stands between the 1st tee and 9th green. A second nine was built nearby in the 1930s, and after the war Blue Mountains City Council acquired the land so the two could be joined, with new holes designed by Arthur East completed in 1949. The club moved into its present clubhouse in 1957.
The 18-hole course plays to par 69 for men and par 74 for women. It is not long, at 5391 metres from the blue tees, but it follows undulating bush terrain, and its slope rating of 126 from the blue tees is the highest in the Blue Mountains. The 2nd and 15th are the par 5s, and the club pays $1000 for a hole in one on the 8th in competition rounds.
Visitors are welcome and book social rounds by phoning the pro shop. Weekday social golf costs $26 for 18 holes and $21 for nine, with weekend rates of $36 and $26. Motorised carts cost visitors $45 for 18 holes. Open medley competitions for men and women are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a mixed competition on some Sundays.
Practice facilities include two nets, a putting green and a practice fairway. The pro shop offers lessons and clinics, and the clubhouse has the Citrus Grill bistro, open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner, along with two squash courts and a children's play area.
Green fees
