About the course
Port Macquarie Golf Club is on Ocean Drive, Port Macquarie, on the NSW Mid North Coast. Its exact founding date is unknown: locals remembered golf being played in 1906 and the first printed references appear in 1911. The original course ran along the town foreshore and clifftops and ended up mostly inside what is now Oxley Park, where crossing fairways became a danger to golfers and the public. In 1948 the club began looking for a new home, and architect J. Scott, who also designed Elanora, chose the present site and drew up the plan. Work began in 1951 and the club moved in July 1953, starting on six holes and later extending to eleven. The full 18 holes opened in April 1967, and NSW Golf Association president Les Graham officially opened the course in February 1968. Malcolm Andrews wrote the club's centenary history, *Birdies, Bunkers & Bamboos*, in 2010.
The 18-hole course has bentgrass greens. A course map, conditions of play and the competition dress regulations are published on the club website.
Visitors can book online through the club's visitor booking page, by email or through the golf shop. Visitor fees are $85 for 18 holes and $50 for nine, and visitor competition entry is $92. Twilight golf costs $40 for as many holes as you can complete after 3pm, or after 4pm during daylight saving. Carts are $70 for 18 holes and $40 for nine and should be booked with the round. Club hire is $30 for 18 holes and $20 for nine, and pull buggies are $5.
The clubhouse is home to The Fairway Restaurant, open for lunch from Tuesday to Sunday, 11.30am to 2pm, and for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, 5.30pm to 8pm. A barbecue runs on Thursday and Saturday from 9.30am until the last group comes in, and the club hosts weddings and functions.
