About the course
Wauchope Country Club is on King Street, a few blocks south of the main street of Wauchope, a town less than 20 kilometres west of Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast. Alongside the 18-hole golf course the club has two bowling greens and an air-conditioned clubhouse.
The course is a par 71 of 5866 metres, laid out over undulating ground with tall trees along many fairways. It is not long, so accuracy counts for more than distance, and bunkers and several water hazards catch wayward shots. The greens are bentgrass and of moderate size.
- 11th: a mid-length par 5 with a blind second shot and water waiting for a loose approach.
- 17th: hazards run down the right side of the fairway, so the left side is the safer line.
- 18th: a 142-metre par 3 finishing hole with water, sand and tall gums in play.
Visitors are welcome at any time and social golf runs most days. Visitor green fees are $36 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, with a $16 twilight rate after 2pm every day. Motorised buggies cost visitors $44 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, and hire clubs are $20 and $15. Visitors book tee times and competition entries by phoning the pro shop on 02 6585 3020. The weekly program has a women's veterans nine-hole event on Monday, men's veterans on Tuesday, women's competition on Wednesday, a 9 and 18-hole medley stableford on Thursday, a golf clinic on Friday morning and a medley competition on Saturday.
The pro shop is run by the club's long-serving head professional, a qualified club fitter who also gives lessons and fittings. The clubhouse kitchen serves lunch and dinner daily, and the club opens from 10am Monday to Saturday and from 9am on Sunday.
