About the course
Teven Golf Club is a nine-hole course at 1684 Eltham Road, Teven, in the Ballina hinterland about 15 minutes from Ballina and 30 minutes from Byron Bay. It was established privately in the mid-1970s, picked up the local nickname "Royal Teven", and was once a private course. After a redesign by Craig Parry it reopened in January 2021 as the first course in Australia with Sir Grange zoysia from tee to green, with TifEagle greens.
The layout uses 18 tees to give two separate nine-hole loops, Black and White, which combine for 18 holes. The valley has creeks and remnant rainforest, and the wind is a factor. Holes of note: - 2nd: a driveable par 4 reached over a stone bridge, with water bordering the green. - 6th: a par 4 with the creek along the left and bunkers placed for both lay-ups and long drives. - 9th: the Scorpion, an uphill par 3 to a three-tiered green.
The course is open to the public every day except Christmas Day, with the first tee at 7am and the last at 4.45pm. Visitors pay $60 for nine holes and $105 for 18, and pull buggies are free. It is a walking-only course with 15-minute tee times and groups of up to five. Bookings are made by online enquiry at least a day ahead, or by phone for same-day play. Social play stops during the Saturday competition (7am to 11am) and the Tuesday competition (from 4pm), and visitors with a Golf Australia handicap can enter competitions. Collared shirts are preferred and covered shoes are required.
A practice putting green sits behind the 1st tee, with a separate members' practice area and hitting bays. The clubhouse has a licensed bar and hot food and is open Tuesday to Sunday.
