About the course

Ocean Shores Country Club is on Orana Road at Ocean Shores on the far north coast of New South Wales, with views across to Byron Bay and the Koonyum Range. The club began as part of the Ocean Shores Estate, a residential project planned in the 1960s by American investors, among them the entertainer Pat Boone. Bob Green was the first course architect engaged, but in June 1970 the firm of Von Hagge, Barnes and Devlin was appointed and reworked his layout. The Ocean Shores Community Centre later bought the clubhouse and course from the developer. In the 2000s a 16-year-old Jason Day won the Schools Sport Australia golf championship here with a record round of 65.

The 18-hole, par-72 course has an unusual mix of six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s, and measures about 6,350 metres. It winds through native bush past tidal lakes and waterways, and the greens are large and well protected.

  • 9th: a 549-metre par 5.
  • 14th: the longest hole, a 556-metre par 5.
  • 12th and 15th: both par 3s of 186 metres.

Visitors can book tee times online through the public booking page or through reception. Visitor fees are $75 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, with juniors $15 and $10. The club asks players to use a cart: hire is $50 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, and drivers must be licensed and over 18. A $30 walking rate for unlimited holes after 2pm applies when available, and the "2 for 1 Tuesday" offer gives two players 18 holes and a shared cart for $125. A dress code applies, with no denim, singlets or board shorts.

Practice facilities include a putting green and a lower practice area for wedges and bunker shots; the driving range is open to members before the Wednesday and Saturday competitions. Head professional Chris Graham runs the pro shop and coaching. The Pacific Breeze Restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily, and the club also has a bar, a café and a halfway house.
