About the course
Wagga Wagga Country Club sits on the western side of Lake Albert in Wagga Wagga's southern suburbs. It was formed on 5 July 1928 as the Wagga Wagga Country Golf Club by a syndicate of 81 debenture holders who bought the lakeside land, and the course, designed by Sydney professional Dan Soutar, opened on 3 May 1930. During the Second World War play shrank to 12 holes, and the club took its current name in 1949. Automatic fairway watering was added in 1980.
The 18-hole course is tree-lined, with blind tee shots, all-weather fairways and fairly quick bent-grass greens. It plays to a par of 72 for men and 73 for women, measuring 6,054 metres from the blue tees (rating 72, slope 127) and 5,291 metres from the red tees (rating 74, slope 129).
- 1st: a 379-metre par 4 doglegging left, rated the hardest driving hole, with Lake Albert out of bounds on the left.
- 11th: a 312-metre par 4 regarded as the signature hole, bending around a large gum tree to a sloping, bunkered green.
The course is open to members, their guests and members of other clubs with a GolfLink number. Social golf is available seven days a week after competitions and must be booked online or through the pro shop: social fees are $65 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, plus a $5 irrigation levy. Competitions run every day of the week, including a Monday veterans' nine-hole event. Collared shirts and soft spikes are required. In extreme heat of 38 degrees the pro shop sounds a siren and players may retire.
The pro shop is run by PGA professionals who offer lessons and club fitting. The clubhouse has the Lakeview Eatery for lunch and dinner and hosts weddings and functions.
