About the course
Alice Springs Golf Club sits on Cromwell Drive in the foothills of the MacDonnell Ranges, which form the backdrop to much of the course. Peter Thomson and his business partner Michael Wolveridge designed and built the layout in the early 1980s. The club staged the Australian Boys' and Girls' Amateur Championships in 2009, and the boys' event had previously been played here in 1997.
The course is an 18-hole desert layout with large tee blocks, fully grassed rolling fairways and big, well-bunkered greens. Rocky outcrops line the edges of several fairways, so accuracy counts for more than length. Golf Australia magazine ranked it 87th among Australia's public courses in 2022, and Golf Digest named the 8th in a list of 45 Australian holes worth playing. The course record is 64, and 65 for professionals.
Visitors are welcome on the course and in the clubhouse. Book tee times online or through the pro shop on (08) 8952 6575, which also handles cart and club hire, fittings and lessons. Club competitions over 18 holes are played every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday, and visitors with a World Handicap System handicap can enter. Visitors can also join the Wednesday afternoon WAGS nine-hole Stableford, the Tuesday afternoon veterans' nine holes (men 55 and over, women 50 and over) and the Thursday morning ladies' nine holes on payment of green fees. The course is soft spikes only and enclosed shoes are recommended. Reciprocal members should bring a letter from their home club.
The floodlit driving range opens from 7am to 9pm Tuesday to Sunday and to 6pm on Monday, with tokens sold at the pro shop or bar. There are two putting greens, two Foresight GC Hawk simulator bays, a grass lawn bowls green and a children's playground. The Rangeview Restaurant and Bar is open to the public; the bar is closed on Mondays except public holidays, and opens from 1pm Tuesday to Thursday, noon on Friday and 9.30am at weekends.
