About the course

Barmera Golf Club sits in the centre of Barmera township beside Lake Bonney, about two and a half hours' drive from Adelaide. It is a community-run club and was named Golf SA Club of the Year for 2022. Barmera is one of five Riverland courses close to one another, with Berri, Loxton, Renmark and Waikerie.

The course is an 18-hole, par 72 layout of grassed fairways over gently undulating ground, measuring 6,110 metres according to the South Australian Tourism Commission. The club takes particular pride in its greens. The short par 3 17th is the hole most often singled out, and the 18th finishes in front of the clubhouse. Competitions are played from blue, white and red tees.

Visitors are welcome all year. Green fees are $45 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, with a discount for groups of 16 or more, paid in the clubhouse or by tap and pay at the green fee window. Carts cost $45 for 18 holes and $25 for nine and are booked by phone or email. Weekly competitions are open to visitors: a mixed Stableford on Wednesdays, the women's competition on Thursday mornings and the main competition day on Saturday, with more events on Sundays and public holidays. The Barmera Open is held in June and the Spring Classic in November.

PGA professional Jamie Clutterham coaches at the club, and two members give free sessions to beginners on the practice fairway. The renovated clubhouse looks over the 18th green and Lake Bonney and serves tap beer, local wine and snacks. The Comfort Inn & Suites Riverland is on the course a few steps from the clubhouse, and the club also has nine lawn tennis courts.
