About the course

Swan Reach Golf Club is at 187 Nildottie Road, about 2.5 kilometres from the Swan Reach ferry and roughly two hours' drive from Adelaide. The club is run entirely by volunteers from the local community, who handle everything from watering and mowing to staffing the bar.

The all-grass course has nine holes and 18 tee boxes, with alternate tees for the back nine. Par is 71 for men and 72 for women, with slope ratings of 114 and 116. The 1st tee is directly in front of the clubhouse, the 4th is a 433-metre par 5 with a big dogleg to the right, and the 10th, played from a tee further back than the 1st as a 367-metre par 4, is rated the hardest hole. The longest hole is the 472-metre 17th, also a par 5. The club's website has an interactive map of the course for use on your phone.

The course is open to the public 365 days a year and no booking is needed for casual golf, though it is worth checking the club's news page for closures. The green fee is $30 a day for unlimited play, or $20 when playing with a member, payable at the course by cash or card (cash is cheaper). The club no longer hires buggies, but free push buggies are available on a first come, first served basis. Visitors can join the competitions on Tuesday (9am tee off) and Saturday (12pm in summer, 12.30pm otherwise) for a $5 entry on top of the green fee. Houseboat visitors can contact the committee to arrange transport to and from the course.

Corporate and social groups of up to 72 players can be handled with a shotgun start, with at least two weeks' notice, and the clubhouse has a bar, kitchen and barbecue. The club points visitors to the Swan Reach Hotel, about 2 kilometres away, for accommodation.
