About the course

Kingston SE Golf Club, established in 1903, plays on a course 4 kilometres south of Kingston SE on the Southern Ports Highway. The fully watered 18-hole layout, which the club describes as professionally designed, is set among undulating coastal sandy rises with tree-lined fairways.

The course measures 6066 metres to a par of 72 from the men's tees and 5252 metres from the women's. Couch fairways lead to bent grass greens, and grassy hollows and mounds provide much of the challenge, along with several doglegs that tempt players to cut the corner over the trees. The ground is gentle enough for older players to walk.

  • 4th: the longest par 3, at 198 metres.
  • 10th: a table-top green that cannot be seen from the fairway.
  • 11th: the longest hole, a 502-metre par 5 with out of bounds left and a steep slope in front of the green.
  • 16th: stroke index 1, a 380-metre par 4.
  • 18th: a 487-metre par 5 with a large gum tree in the middle of the fairway, forcing a choice of side for the second shot.

The course is open at all times, with green fees paid through an honesty box: $40 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, $10 for juniors under 18, or $120 for a week. Carts are hired through Vendi Golf, and groups wanting more than two should book ahead with the club on 0467 960 206.

Men play competitions on Saturdays at noon and Wednesday afternoons, and women on Saturdays at 11.30am, Thursday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Annual events include the Kingston Cup two-day stableford in October, ambrose days in January and the Southern Ports tournament in late February. The clubhouse has a bar.
