About the course
Mount Compass Golf Course is on George Francis Drive in Mount Compass, in the middle of the Fleurieu Peninsula. The club puts it about 50 minutes' drive from the Adelaide CBD and 20 minutes from Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Middleton and Goolwa. It sits in a residential estate, so 50 km/h limits apply on the access roads.
The 18-hole public course was designed by Neil Crafter of Golf Strategies, an architect with a long interest in the work of Dr Alister MacKenzie, whose own portfolio includes work at Kooyonga, Glenelg and Barwon Heads. It plays in a links style over gently undulating ground, making use of the sandy soils and natural contours of the site. The par 71 layout measures over 5,907 metres, with four par 3s, eleven par 4s and three par 5s, and gorse, 84 tight bunkers and a few water features to negotiate.
The course is open to the public, and tee times can be booked online or by calling the pro shop on 08 8556 8500. From 1 October the individual 18-hole green fee is $89 Monday to Friday and $109 on weekends and public holidays. Juniors under 18 pay $35 on weekdays and $40 on weekends, and pensioners $69 on weekdays. Carts cost $50 and pull buggies $5, and clubs are available for hire. Corporate, trade day and group rates can be arranged with the clubhouse office or pro shop.
Practice facilities include a putting green and a large driving range, with buckets of balls at $10 (small) and $17.50 (medium). The pro shop carries equipment and apparel and offers lessons. The bar and restaurant are open to the public Wednesday to Sunday, with lunch from 11am to 3pm and the bar open from 9.30am to 4pm; table bookings are taken on 08 8556 8022.
