About the course

Tarraleah Golf Club plays on a nine-hole course beside Tarraleah Estate in Tasmania's Central Highlands. Tarraleah sits on the Lyell Highway about 128 kilometres, or 1 hour 45 minutes by road, north-west of Hobart, and was built to house workers on one of Australia's first hydro-electric schemes. Hydro Tasmania built the course in the 1950s for the town's residents and planted it with European and native trees that have since grown to maturity. Tarraleah Estate describes it as the highest golf course in Tasmania, and Discover Tasmania has listed it as the highest in Australia.

The nine holes play to par 65 over 5,900 yards (about 5,395 metres), and additional tees allow the course to be played as an 18-hole round. Mature eucalypt forest frames the fairways, and grazing wallabies help keep the watered greens short.

Tarraleah Golf Club describes itself as a private club, and the course is run by the club, the estate's neighbours, rather than by Tarraleah Estate. To play a round or arrange a group visit, contact the course in advance, and bring your own clubs.
