About the course
Anglesea Golf Club is set in bushland at Anglesea on the Great Ocean Road, a little over an hour from Melbourne. Its first nine holes, designed by Vern Morcom, opened in December 1953, and the second nine followed in April 1961. More land became available in 1962, and a redesign of the original nine was finished in 1968. The fairways were converted to wintergreen couch in the 1990s, and since 2000 the course has been watered from a recycled water system.
The 18-hole course measures 6028 metres, with firm fairways and 42 bunkers, and carries a course rating of 73. Many fairways border nature reserves, and hundreds of eastern grey kangaroos graze on the course, especially in the evening; the club runs kangaroo tours.
The course is open to the public: register as a public member online to book a tee time. Green fees are $65 for 18 holes and $45 for nine on weekdays, and $75 and $50 on weekends and public holidays. Juniors pay $40 and $25. Motorised carts cost $55 for 18 holes and $35 for nine (deposit required), pull buggies $8 and hire clubs $35 and $25. Group rates apply for 12 or more players booked 14 days ahead, except from 26 December to 31 January.
Practice facilities include a 250-metre, 12-bay driving range, three practice fairways, two putting greens, a chipping green and nets. The pro shop opens seven days and offers lessons using FlightScope analysis. The clubhouse bar opens daily from 10am, with a deck overlooking the course. The club also has mini golf and holiday accommodation on the course.
