About the course

Torquay Golf Club started in October 1920 on crown land now mostly occupied by the foreshore caravan park. In 1924 it moved to a nine-hole layout across Spring Creek on land leased from local businessman Alfred White, who later agreed to sell it to the club for 500 pounds and never asked for payment. A new layout opened in 1937 with the club's first clubhouse. In the early 1950s five members bought 123 acres to the west, sold half to the club below value and subdivided the rest, and the course opened as an 18-hole par 70 in October 1952. The clubhouse opened in December 1959 was the dining hall used by athletes at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, and from that year every hole sat west of Spring Creek. The RACV bought the club in October 2008 and upgraded the course while building its resort.

Today it is a links-style course with Santa Ana couch fairways, fescue roughs, wetlands and undulating greens, looking over the Torquay and Jan Juc shoreline. There are four sets of tees: green at 4864 metres, yellow at 5145 metres, white at 5670 metres and the occasional black tee at 5804 metres, all par 71 for men. Strong southerly winds are a regular factor. - 2nd: a par 4 with water right and a two-tier green, reachable for long hitters on calm days. - 11th: a par 5 with ocean views from the tee and a dam about 250 metres out on the left. - 17th: the signature hole, a par 3 with ocean views, where the green must be found from the tee to avoid deep bunkers on both sides.

The course is open to the public outside members' times, and handicapped visitors can play the daily competition for a $5 fee. Book online or through the golf shop. RACV members pay lower green fees; the fee table on the club's website was marked valid to 30 June 2026, so confirm current rates when booking. Standard golf attire is required, with neat denim allowed but no football shorts, thongs or large slogans. There is a short-game practice area with a practice tee for irons, and Geelong Golf Academy professionals run lessons and term clinics.
