About the course

Cerberus Golf Club plays on the grounds of HMAS Cerberus, the naval base beside Western Port on the Mornington Peninsula, about 45 minutes from Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs. Officers first played golf near the base's West Gate in 1921, and four courses have been built on the base since. The present one grew from firebreaks around the married quarters that volunteers turned into fairways, with nine holes finished in 1946. Members, all Defence personnel at the time, built the current greens in 1974. Commonwealth funding ended in 1999, when the club took over maintenance and, with base approval, opened to green fee players. Members built the 100-seat clubhouse in 1988.

The course has nine greens and 18 tees, so the second nine plays slightly differently, for a par of 72 over 5,618 metres. It runs through bushland with plenty of wildlife, and the longest hole is the 504-metre par 5 7th, which looks across Western Port.

Visitors are welcome and social play is available most days outside competition times, which are Tuesday and Thursday from noon, Saturday from 3pm and major club events. Guests with a Golf ID can enter the Thursday open stableford. Public tee times are booked online up to 15 days ahead. Weekday fees, current to 13 December 2026, are $35 for 18 holes and $20 for nine; Sundays and public holidays are $40 and $22. Unlimited golf after 3pm costs $18 midweek and $20 at weekends. Motorised carts cost $44 for 18 holes and $27 for nine, buggies $2 and hire clubs $10. Smart casual golf attire is required, with no tracksuit pants, singlets, thongs or hi-vis workwear.

The clubhouse has a bar, kitchen and covered patio with a barbecue area.
