About the course
Clifton Springs Golf Club, on Clearwater Drive on the Bellarine Peninsula, traces its origins to the late 19th century, when golf is thought to have been part of a clifftop hotel development for holidaymakers arriving by paddle steamer to visit the local mineral springs. The original club held its first recorded Saturday competition on 20 November 1909 on a nine-hole links laid out by Dick Banks, and marked the centenary of that event in 2009.
The course is now an 18-hole layout owned by the City of Greater Geelong, and the club has run and maintained it since 1 January 1993. In 2026 the club began a five-year strategy and redevelopment plan covering the course, facilities and hospitality.
Visitors are welcome and tee times can be booked online. Green fees are the same all week: $60 for 18 holes and $42 for nine, with seniors $54 and $38 and juniors under 18 $42 and $30. Twilight rates apply after 3pm during daylight saving and after 2pm the rest of the year. Carts are $40 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, pull buggies $5, and hire clubs $20 for 18 holes or $15 for nine.
The renovated pro shop stocks clothing and equipment and has an indoor golf simulator (non-members $20 for 30 minutes or $30 for an hour). It looks out over the 18th green to Corio Bay and the You Yangs. Head coach Dan Materazzo runs Effortless Golf from the club, offering lessons, junior coaching, clinics and club fitting. The bistro overlooks the course and is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, with bookings taken online, and the bar runs a happy hour from 4pm to 6pm on Thursdays and Fridays.
