About the course

Curlewis Golf Club sits on Portarlington Road on the Bellarine Peninsula, about 15 minutes from Geelong and an hour from Melbourne, with views across Corio Bay. East Geelong Golf Club bought the 60-hectare site in 1947, and the course designed by Vern Morcom opened for play in 1970. Kevin Hartley prepared a master plan in 1976 and Michael Clayton another in 2001. Since July 2015 the club has been owned by local winery and cidery operators Lyndsay and David Sharp, who have invested heavily in the course and a new clubhouse.

The course has a sandy base, few trees, undulating couch fairways, large contoured greens and firm, fast putting surfaces, and the wind usually sets the difficulty. The club gives the full length as 6150 metres, par 71.

  • 8th: a 130-metre par 3 to a huge three-tier green framed by the 12th tee.
  • 9th: a 326-metre par 4 with water long and left and around the elevated green, often called the signature hole.
  • 12th: a 302-metre par 4 from an elevated tee that long hitters try to drive, with out of bounds left and deep bunkers by the green.
  • 15th: a 504-metre par 5 with a burn crossing the fairway at about 210 metres.

Green fee players are welcome and tee times can be booked online or through the Golf Shop on (03) 5251 1111. From 1 September to 25 December, weekday rates are $90 for 18 holes and $50 for nine, rising to $100 and $55 at weekends; peak rates apply from 26 December to 26 January. Twilight golf is unlimited play for the nine-hole rate, from 3pm October to March and 2pm April to September. Carts are $50 for 18 holes ($60 in peak season) and $30 for nine.

The Range @ Curlewis, opened in January 2018, has an 18-bay driving range with Toptracer, two simulators, PGA teaching professionals, a two-tier mini golf course and a cafe and bar. The clubhouse houses the Claribeaux restaurant and the smaller Ivor's Spike Bar.
