About the course

Lonsdale Links lies in the coastal dunes of Point Lonsdale beside Lake Victoria, about 30 minutes from Geelong and 90 minutes from Melbourne. Local residents led by A. M. Nicholas bought land in 1921, cleared a nine-hole course largely by volunteer labour, and opened the Point Lonsdale Golf Links on 18 November 1922. Almost a century later the club sold part of its land, bought neighbouring farmland, and rebuilt both course and clubhouse; the redeveloped course opened to the public in December 2020, and the club turned 100 in November 2022.

Ogilvy Cocking Mead designed the new course as template holes in the manner of Charles Blair Macdonald, Seth Raynor and Charles Banks, with square greens and strong contours. From the back tees it is 5505 metres, par 70.

  • 1st (Alps): a 305-metre par 4 over a large dune, based on the 3rd at the National Golf Links of America.
  • 2nd (Biarritz): a 165-metre par 3 from an elevated tee, with a deep trough across the green.
  • 13th (Long): the longest hole, a 520-metre par 5 with a large bunker called "Hell" on the line to the green.
  • 16th (Road): a 275-metre par 4 inspired by the Road Hole at St Andrews, with out of bounds against the green.

The course is open to the public every day except Christmas Day, with first tee times from 7:30am. On Saturdays green fee players with a handicap can join competition, and social play starts after 3pm. From 1 October 2026 standard season fees are $150 on weekdays and $170 at weekends and public holidays, with twilight golf at $100; peak rates apply from 26 December to 26 January. Carts are $60, the club is cashless, and the dress code calls for collared shirts and bans denim, gym wear and thongs.

The practice range opens from 7am to 4pm (drivers only before 9am), alongside a short game area and two putting greens. The Wood Marsh clubhouse has a golfers' lounge, a separate restaurant and a children's playground.
