About the course
Club Mandalay is in Beveridge, just off the Hume Freeway and about 45 minutes' drive north of Melbourne. Its golf course was designed by Thomson Perrett, the firm led by the late five-time Open champion Peter Thomson, which shaped flat grazing land into a contoured layout. The course has a Golf Australia slope rating of 132.
The hole guide totals par 72 over about 6,185 metres, with four par 3s and four par 5s. Deep bunkering, raised greens and Open-style rough are recurring features, and water runs down the left of the par-5 2nd and 6th.
- 3rd: a 182-metre par 3 played downhill to a large green split by a spine, with a deep bunker front right.
- 8th: a 396-metre par 4 and the second-hardest hole on the card, where most approaches are played from more than 165 metres to a green set at an angle.
- 13th: a 363-metre par 4 played past the windmill, on the part of the course most affected by the prevailing wind.
- 18th: the signature hole, a 291-metre par 4 looking towards the clubhouse and Mount Fraser, with an uphill approach to an undulating green with a false front.
Public tee times and golf lessons are available seven days a week, and rounds can be booked online. Green fees are $50 for 18 holes and $25 for nine on weekdays, and $65 for 18 holes and $40 for nine at weekends. Golf shoes with soft spikes, socks and tailored shorts or trousers are required, and men must wear collared shirts. Denim, tracksuit pants, T-shirts and thongs are not allowed, and alcohol may not be brought in.
The pro shop is open from 7am to 6pm daily. Kelly's Restaurant overlooks the course and serves lunch daily, dinner from Thursday to Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, and there is also a casual terrace and a café with grab-and-go food.
