About the course
Growling Frog Golf Course is at 1910 Donnybrook Road, Yan Yean, about half an hour's drive from Melbourne's Northern Ring Road. Graham Marsh designed the course in 2004, and it was the first in Australia built using 3D and GPS tracking technology to fit around environmentally sensitive areas. It is run by GSM Golf (Golf Services Management) and is home to the Growling Frog Golf Club.
The par 72 course measures 6185 metres and covers 280 acres of bush and wetland, with old River Red Gums, kangaroos and views to the southern edge of the Great Dividing Range. It is watered entirely with recycled water, so players must be off the course by 7.15pm, or earlier if staff ask, for watering.
The course is open to the public. Adult green fees from 1 October are $69 for 18 holes and $48 for nine, with lower weekday rates for City of Whittlesea residents ($47.50 for 18 holes), juniors under 21 and Seniors Card holders. Fees are reviewed each October. Tee times can be booked online, GPS carts cost $56 for 18 holes and $42 for nine, and pull buggies and standard or premium hire clubs are available. Club competitions are held on Wednesdays, Fridays, weekends and public holidays.
Practice facilities include a full-length driving range with mat and grass tees (closed until 10am on Tuesdays), a practice green and a chipping area. PGA professionals give private lessons and adult and junior clinics. The restaurant, cafe and Spike Bar serve lunch daily from 11.30am to 2.30pm and breakfast on weekends, and non-golfers are welcome.
