About the course
Whittlesea Golf Club was founded in 1937 on a nine-hole course laid out on the farm of local man Walter Andrew. It later moved to about 45 acres of Crown land beside the Plenty River in Whittlesea, but winter flooding from three streams forced a further move to its present site at Humevale, a few kilometres north-east of the township. The club bought 125 acres there and another 25 some years later, and members did much of the work themselves, planting 1,000 trees in a single working bee and building the clubhouse on the hill. Ian Baker-Finch won his first professional tournament at the club.
The 18-hole course runs through undulating bushland with small lakes and ponds in play. It measures 6,148 metres from the men's tees and 5,308 metres from the women's, both par 73.
- 2nd: a 147-metre par 3 with out of bounds right and water around the green.
- 5th: a 341-metre par 4, the stroke 1 hole, to a two-tier green.
- 11th: at 525 metres, the longest hole from the back tees.
- 16th: a 508-metre par 5 with water on both sides of the green.
- 18th: a 183-metre par 3 finish.
The club is semi-private and welcomes green fee players and social groups. Weekday fees are $40 for 18 holes and $30 for nine; weekends are $50 for 18, with nine holes at $40 after 1.30pm. Unlimited golf late in the day costs $30 on weekdays and $40 at weekends. Green fee play is available all day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday call the pro shop on 03 9716 2607 for times. Carts cost $55 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, pull carts $8.
