About the course

East Geelong Golf Club was formed at a meeting on 16 July 1923 and officially opened its links on 18 August that year, on land leased from the state with grazing rights for the previous tenants. A clubhouse followed in 1924. The course runs through the Geelong Botanic Gardens area with views over Corio Bay, a short trip from the CBD.

It is a nine-hole course with separate tees for each nine, so 18 holes play differently the second time round. From the black (Limeburners) tees it measures 5393 metres, par 70 for men; white and green tees shorten it.

  • 5th: a 414-metre par 4, rated the hardest hole on the course for its length.
  • 7th: at 498 metres the longest hole, a par 5 to a narrow green between deep bunkers.
  • 13th: the signature par 3 known as "Speinkopf", 193 metres from the back with water down the left, often played across a breeze off the bay.

Members have priority on Saturdays from 7am to 3:30pm, Tuesdays from 7am to noon and Wednesdays from 7am to 12:30pm. Guests can book through the public bookings page or by calling the pro shop on 5229 3634. Green fees are $30 on weekdays and $35 at weekends, and guests playing with a member pay $25. Carts are $45 for 18 holes for non-members and push buggies $5.

The golf shop is staffed seven days. Mercy Cafe, overlooking the 9th, opens daily from 7am to 2pm, and the bar opens Friday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm, with an open fire in winter and a deck in summer. The function room holds more than 120 people. The club's Open Tournament runs from 27 to 29 November 2026.
