About the course

Hamilton Golf Club, on Rippon Road in the western Victorian city of Hamilton, was formed on 5 August 1896 and counts itself among the oldest clubs in Victoria. The shire's tourism site describes the course as spread over 146 acres among flowering gums and wattles.

The 18-hole course has grass greens, tree-lined couch fairways and well-bunkered greens. From the men's tees it measures 6004 metres to par 72, and from the ladies' tees 5236 metres to par 74. The club's course layout marks water hazards and a practice range, and all fence lines are out of bounds. Players are asked to carry a sand bucket and fill their divots.

New members and visitors are welcome. Green fee players can generally get on once competitions have finished; social play is open on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, after 1pm on Thursdays and after 3pm on Saturdays. Tee times are booked through the club's app and online booking system, and carts are hired online or at the Vendi machine near the captain's office. The dress code asks for neat, tidy clothing, with flat shoes if you are not wearing golf shoes, and the club suggests arriving 30 minutes early to check the local rules and pay.

  • Tuesday: beginners, with help from a professional and members.
  • Wednesday and Thursday: men's and ladies' competitions.
  • Saturday: men's and ladies' competitions.

The clubhouse has change rooms and a bar and bistro, and Friday evening is a social night with a draw and raffle. The rooms are also hired out for weddings, parties and other functions.
