About the course

Hill Top Golf & Country Club is on the northern edge of Tatura in the Goulburn Valley, about 15 minutes from Shepparton and two hours from Melbourne. Golf in Tatura goes back to a four-hole course in 1909; the club later played at the racecourse, growing to 18 holes there in 1949. In 1963 members raised debentures to buy Hill Top, a 137-acre property on undulating ground with a brick homestead that became the clubhouse. Eric Horne and Horrie Brown designed the new course, much of it built by working bees, with Tom O'Brien raising many of the trees from seed. The 18-hole grass-green course was opened on 10 April 1965 by John McEwen.

Today the course plays to par 71 and 5,910 metres for men and par 72 and 5,136 metres for women. Five front-nine holes were rebuilt in the 1990s when the Northlinks estate was developed, bringing water hazards, fairway bunkers and a double green into play.

Social golf is open to the public seven days a week, from 1pm on Saturdays. Green fees are $50 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, juniors under 18 pay $15 and under-12s play free with an adult. Visitors with a Golf Australia handicap can enter competitions for $30, covering green and competition fees; competitions run on Tuesdays (men), Wednesdays (women), Thursdays (men, plus a nine-hole twilight event from 2pm) and Saturdays. Book by phone, online or at the bar. Motorised carts, club sets ($10) and buggies ($5) can be hired.

The club also has two Tiff Dwarf bowling greens, a main bar and the Links & Rinks Bistro, open Wednesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. Powered caravan sites beside the 16th green and 17th tee cost $35 a night.
