About the course
Keilor Public Golf Course is an 18-hole public course owned and run by Brimbank City Council in Keilor North, in Melbourne's north-west. It sits off the Kings Road exit of the Calder Freeway, about 20 minutes' drive from central Melbourne.
The course plays to a par of 70 and measures 5387 metres from the white tees and 4748 metres from the red. It has three par 5s and five par 3s, with water, elevated greens and doglegs giving variety.
- 6th: a short par 3 of 124 metres, played over water to a raised green.
- 7th: a 366-metre par 4 that bends right between fairway bunkers to a shallow, elevated green, rated the hardest hole on the course.
- 10th: a 473-metre par 5 with out of bounds down the left and a fairway bunker that needs a carry of about 210 metres.
- 11th: a 164-metre par 3 to a firm, undulating and shallow green.
- 15th: a 415-metre par 5 that can be reached in two.
- 18th: a dogleg left from an elevated tee to a two-tier green.
The course is open to the public, and tee times can be booked through the online booking system, which the club says is cheaper than paying at the counter. The facility is cashless, so bring a card for eftpos. Ten golf carts are available to hire (not to under-18s, and not when the course is too wet in winter), along with pull buggies and club sets.
The driving range has matted bays and a grass area, a pitching area and a practice bunker, with buckets of 25, 60 or 110 balls. It opens from 7am Tuesday to Sunday and from 10am on Mondays. A resident PGA professional gives lessons, and the club runs a junior academy, Get Into Golf programs for women and people with disability, yearly passes and social groups.
