About the course
Mt Derrimut Golf & Community Club traces its history to the Sunshine Golf Club, founded on 9 July 1923 with H.V. McKay as patron. Its first course was nine holes with sand-scrape greens on the banks of Kororoit Creek. In 1963 members voted to move about 4 km to Fitzgerald Road, West Sunshine, where an 18-hole, par-70 grass-green course was built, and the clubhouse there was rebuilt after a fire in 1977. In 2002 members voted to move again, about 3 km west, and the club opened at Mt Derrimut in November 2007.
The course was designed by Craig Parry and Pacific Coast Design and plays to a par of 72, with heritage-listed dry stone walls running through the layout. The opening hole is a 372-metre par 4 from the black tees that doglegs right, with water left and bunkers guarding the corner. The renovated clubhouse incorporates the farm homestead built in 1883, and looks across to the Melbourne CBD skyline.
The course is open to the public, and visitors register for a free public member profile to book tee times online. Midweek green fees are $60 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, with weekend rates of $75 and $50. Peak pricing applies on public holidays, from 21 December to 26 January and on other set days such as Melbourne Cup Monday. Juniors pay $25 midweek and $32 on weekends.
The driving range uses Toptracer and opens from 7am to 10pm most days, with buckets from $15. An 18-hole mini golf course has three levels of difficulty on each hole. The club has a pro shop, club fitting and coaching. The bistro is open daily from 10am or 11am, serving meals on the terrace, and the clubhouse hosts weddings and events.
