About the course

Kyabram Valley View Golf & Bowls Club is on Curr Road just outside Kyabram, in the valley of Mount Scobie, about 200 kilometres north of Melbourne and 30 minutes from Shepparton and Echuca. It was founded after the wet year of 1956, when Kyabram golfers whose course kept going under water joined Tongala players to start a new district course on flood-free ground. They bought a 114-acre property at Mount Scobie, about 5 miles west of town; members Alan Johnson, Tom Richards and Ed Costello laid out the holes, and the course opened on 19 April 1958 in front of 350 golfers and visitors. The club says very few changes have been made to that layout since, and many of the trees planted in the early years still line the fairways.

The 18 holes play to par 72 on couch fairways and grass greens, with an Australian Course Rating of 70.1.

Visitors are welcome. The green fee is $35 for a full day of golf, $25 for nine holes and $10 for juniors over 18 holes. Carts cost $40 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, booked at the course or by text message. Players with a handicap can join competitions, which are generally shotgun starts: men play on Saturdays and Tuesdays, with twilight golf from 5pm on Thursdays during daylight saving, and women on Saturdays and Wednesdays, plus nine holes on Fridays. From December to February, hit-offs are at 8.30am and noon.

The licensed clubhouse is available for functions, and the club can arrange accommodation, transport and meals for visiting groups. It also has two grass bowling greens, with social bowls open to visitors.
