About the course

Lancefield Golf Club was formed in June 1927 on the edge of the Lancefield township, on land granted by Jack Linehan, and a small clubhouse followed in 1928. Golf was seasonal: sheep grazed the course, and the ten sand scrapes were fenced off to keep them out. In 1977 the Romsey Shire Council bought the land, and the club was allowed to stay on condition that it built an 18-hole course with grass greens. Melbourne amateur Bill Edgar designed the layout, and members did much of the construction themselves from 1982. Ten grass greens opened in 1984, giving year-round golf for the first time, the full 18 were finished over the following four years, and the current clubhouse opened in 1991. The club celebrates its centenary in 2027 with a Pro-Am in March.

The course is undulating and par 72 from every tee, measuring 6016 metres from the blue tees, 5817 metres from the white and 5212 metres from the red. Fairways are wide and lightly treed, several holes are edged by pine plantations, and a creek that runs in winter and spring crosses seven fairways on the western side. Two large dams come into play, and greens range from 155 to 345 square metres. A part-time greenkeeper and volunteer members look after the course, and it is an easy walk.

Visitors pay $30 for 18 holes, which covers the whole day, or $25 for nine. After 4pm during daylight saving the fee is $10, and juniors under 15 pay $10. Motorised carts cost $40 and push buggies are free. Tee times for 18 or nine holes can be booked online. Green fee players give way to competitions: Tuesday and Thursday from 10am, the Wednesday women's competition from 9am to 1pm, the Wednesday twilight from 5pm in daylight saving, and Saturday from 11am to 3pm. Visitors with a GA handicap can join in. The clubrooms are available for hire.
