About the course

Romsey is about 55 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. The town's first formal course, nine holes designed by the Riversdale Golf Club professional Mr Young, was laid out in Romsey Park in 1922, with L. M. Inglis as the first president. A small weatherboard clubhouse was built in 1926. The club folded during World War II, when the clubrooms burnt down and many records were lost, and Jack Reynolds and Stuart Smith reopened the course in August 1946. Today the club is run entirely by volunteers, looks after about 80 per cent of Romsey Park, which is Crown land, and has planted well over a thousand trees and shrubs since 2009.

The 18-hole regular course is par 72 for men and par 71 for women, with some greens shared between holes (the 2nd and 10th, the 5th and 12th). There is also a 12-hole, par 45 Old Course.

  • 1st: a 162-metre downhill par 3 with a long, narrow bunker front right.
  • 15th: a 147-metre par 3 to the largest green on the course.
  • 16th: a 188-metre par 3 from a long tee down to a raised green, which the club suggests may be its signature hole.
  • 18th: a 360-metre par 4 that turns sharply right, with internal out of bounds along the right side.

Green fees are $20 for the whole day, any day, and juniors aged 12 to 18 pay $5; children under 12 play free with an adult. After 4pm the fee table lists $10, but the online payment link charges $15. Pay at the honesty box at the 1st tee or through QR codes on the tees, and keep the receipt, as marshals check. Most days you can walk on, but space is limited during Wednesday and Saturday competitions, so phone ahead. Twilight golf runs on Fridays from October to March from 4.30pm. The clubrooms are shared with the bowls club and are licensed, including for drinks on the course.

Green fees

$20 all day, any day; juniors $5; after 4pm cheaper; pay at honesty box or QR code. Golf after 4pm: $10 (adults) per the fee table, but the pay-now link lists after 4pm at $15.
