About the course

Mallacoota Golf & Country Club is on the outskirts of the Mallacoota township in far East Gippsland, on ground with views over Bass Strait, the Tasman Sea, Gabo Island and the surrounding heathland. Construction of its new course began in 2023.

The Heathland Layout, designed by Michael Henderson of Holes in the Ground, is an 18-hole links-style course with no bunkers, fitted into the natural landscape and maintained by a superintendent and a volunteer crew. The holes are grouped into named runs, so shorter rounds are easy to arrange:

  • Gabo Run: holes 1 to 7, named after Gabo Island, about 8 nautical miles east.
  • Sand Dune: holes 1 to 11, below the Tip Beach dune that rises above the 9th green.
  • Tip Beach Run: holes 8 to 11, running beside Tip Beach, where the wind is the main test.
  • Lions Track: holes 12 to 18, built by the local Lions Club and holding some of the harder holes.

Green fees are $45 for 18 holes, $35 for 11, $25 for seven and $15 for four, with a weekly pass at $120 and junior rates from $10. Carts cost $40 for 18 holes and $25 for shorter rounds, push buggies are $5, and hire clubs come from the pro shop, which also stocks balls and drinks. Weekly competitions tee off at 11am on Saturdays and at 12pm on Wednesdays over nine holes, with junior golf on Saturday mornings. Coaching and fitting days with a PGA professional are held during the year.

The bar opens from 4pm Thursday to Sunday and the bistro serves from 5:30pm to 8pm on those days, with a courtesy bus that can be booked on (03) 5158 0277. The club also offers croquet.
