About the course

Marysville's golf course sits in a valley of the Great Dividing Range on the outskirts of the town, with the Steavenson River running through it. Golf has been played here since 1931 or 1932, when the Dowdle family donated land for a nine-hole course. The golf club was formed in 1967, the present 18-hole course opened in 1974, and the golf and bowls clubs merged in 1990. The clubrooms survived the Black Saturday fires of 2009 and served the community afterwards, and they were rebuilt with state and philanthropic funding and reopened in September 2014. Volunteers have built and kept up the course throughout.

The 18-hole course has grass greens and no bunkers, and plays to a par of 71 from the men's tees. The club lists it at 5,762 metres, with slope ratings of 129 from the blue tees and 127 from the red. About 65 per cent of the course is flat: the front nine is fairly level, and the back nine climbs up and down along the river. Fairways are long and wide, with several elevated tees.

  • 7th: a 235-metre par 4, the shortest, with water around a sloping green.
  • 15th: a 374-metre par 4 with a sharp dogleg right and the river guarding the green.
  • 17th: a 391-metre par 4 from an elevated tee, doglegging right to a green protected by the river.

The course is open seven days from dawn to dusk, and non-members are welcome at any time. Tee times can be booked online, and larger groups can send a group booking request. Clubs, buggies and carts can be hired; cart hirers must be over 18 and show a driver's licence. The golf shop is open most weekends. Visitors with a GA handicap can play the mixed competitions: nine holes on Thursday afternoons and 18 holes on Saturday mornings.

There is a practice fairway, a net and a putting green. The Pavilion Bar and Grill serves dinner on Mondays and is open from noon to 9pm Wednesday to Sunday.
