About the course
Yering Meadows Golf Club began as the Croydon Golf Club, founded in 1925, and now occupies 330 acres at 178-180 Victoria Road, Yering, in the Yarra Valley, with the Dandenong Ranges as a backdrop. Ross Watson designed the course, which was reviewed by architect Mike Clayton. The first 18 holes opened in June 2008 and holes 19 to 27 followed the next year.
The 27 holes have Legend couch fairways and bentgrass greens and are played as three 18-hole courses, each par 72: the Nursery (holes 1 to 18), the Valley (10 to 27) and the Homestead (19 to 27 then 1 to 9). Ponds and wetlands come into play on most of the first 18 holes and less often on the newer nine, and the greens are large with several levels. Lengths below are from the black tees.
- 4th: a 327-metre par 4, drivable from the forward tees.
- 13th: the longest par 5, at 540 metres.
- 22nd: a 130-metre par 3 ringed by bunkers.
- 26th: a 418-metre par 4 and the index 1 hole, with water down the left and a creek in front of the green.
Visitors are welcome on Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings and afternoons, Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons, booked through the front desk, and tee times can also be requested online. Nine holes cost $40 on weekdays and $45 at weekends, and a member's guest pays $50 for 18 holes on weekdays and $60 at weekends. Carts cost $55 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, pull buggies $5 and hire clubs $25. Social group days can be booked any day of the week. Football shorts, singlets, thongs, hi-vis and work wear are not allowed.
The practice facility, open to the public every day, has a 320-metre grass-tee range, two chipping areas, two putting greens and an indoor simulator, and PGA professionals give lessons. The members' cafe opens daily from 7am or 8am, and the Terrace Cafe restaurant serves lunch Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm.
