About the course

Alexandra Golf Club was formed in 1929 and plays on a public reserve in Alexandra, in the Murrindindi Shire. The layout is unusual: it is built in and around the Alexandra Racing Club track, with the front nine mostly running around the outside of the racecourse and the back nine mostly inside it, and some fairways cross the track. The clubhouse is a historic building first used by Utah Constructions while the dam wall was being raised.

The course is 18 holes with grass greens and gently undulating grassed fairways lined with old red gums. There are no sand bunkers, but several large dams come into play and also water the greens, surrounds and tees. From the white tees it is a par 70 of 5,462 metres (course rating 69.4, slope 124); the red tees play as a par 71 of 4,971 metres.

  • 6th: a 396-metre par 4, rated the hardest hole on the course.
  • 8th and 15th: the two long par 5s, at 463 and 483 metres.

Visitors can play any day. The green fee is a flat $25 per round, for 9 or 18 holes, and the same rate applies to adults, juniors and visitors. Fees are paid by credit or debit card at the Vendi kiosk, which also handles motorised cart hire at $40 for 18 holes. Pull buggies are free and clubs can be hired, subject to availability. Tee times can be arranged by phone. The course opens at 7am on weekdays and 6:30am on weekends, until dusk, and closes on maintenance days.

The club's Chook Run social competition tees off on Thursdays from 5pm during daylight saving, and Alexandra is one of four venues for the summer Murrindindi Masters with Eildon, Marysville and Yea. The licensed clubroom has barbecue facilities and a practice putting green is included in the fee.
