About the course
Mount Beauty Golf Club is in the Kiewa Valley of Victoria's Alpine High Country, about 45 minutes from Falls Creek, 40 minutes from Bright and an hour from Albury Airport. It is a volunteer-run, public access club, where members mow the fairways and turn out for regular working bees. Kangaroos and yellow-tailed black cockatoos are often seen on the course, and in winter Mount Bogong is capped with snow.
The 18-hole layout is a par 72 from the white tees (5,854 metres) and the blue tees (6,025 metres). From the red tees it measures 5,172 metres, par 73 for women and par 69 for men. There is only one bunker on the course, short of the 18th green. Holes worth knowing:
- 2nd: the club's signature hole, a 341-metre par 4 climbing to an elevated green, with views of West Peak and Mount Bogong.
- 6th: a 389-metre par 4 dogleg, rated one of the two hardest holes by stroke index.
- 11th: the longest hole at 518 metres, a par 5 with out of bounds all along the right.
- 18th: a par 3 of up to 202 metres, played from an elevated tee over a gully.
No tee time is needed for social golf. Green fees are $37 for all day and $27 for nine holes, both including a pull buggy, and under-18s pay $12 all day including clubs. Pay by cash in the honesty box at the clubhouse or by card on the VendiPay machine. Hire clubs cost $17, and the club's two motorised carts are booked online through VendiCart for three or five hours. Social players should avoid competition tee-off times on Wednesdays and Saturdays; visitors with a Golf Australia handicap can enter those competitions, and a twilight field plays on Wednesdays during daylight saving.
There is a practice putting green and driving nets. The licensed clubroom and its deck bar open on competition days.
