About the course

Nagambie Golf Club is in the Nagambie Lakes district, a little over an hour from Melbourne, on Cemetery Lane in Nagambie. The club moved to this site in 1996, buying the land with debenture loans from members and the wider community. Before then it played on a sand-green course along Racecourse Road, and the move let it build a grass-green course that is playable all year.

The 18-hole course has bent grass greens and is looked after by a part-time greenkeeper with help from volunteers. The club itself is volunteer-run and treats the course as a community facility, with a casual, friendly atmosphere.

Visitors are welcome. Green fees can be booked and paid online through the club website at $25 for adults and $10 for children; the booking page does not say how many holes this covers. Packages are offered for social and corporate groups of seven or more, and groups can book up to two years ahead.

Non-members are invited to most competitions. Women play on Wednesdays, with an 8.30am hit-off in summer and 9.30am in winter, and the men's winter competition is on Sundays with a 9.30am hit-off. The Thursday chook run is a nine-hole handicap event that can be played at any time before 7pm, in pairs or larger groups, for $3 an entry; the winner receives a voucher for a chicken from a local shop.

The clubhouse has a bar and catering and can be hired for functions.
