About the course

Nathalia Golf Club was formed at a meeting in the town in March 1909, and its first links, nine holes laid out on a local paddock, were opened on 19 May that year. In 1915 the club moved to crown land around the Nathalia Showgrounds, where golfers crossed a swing bridge over Broken Creek to play three of the holes. Floods in 1939 and 1956 prompted another move, to the present site east of the town, where members built an 18-hole sand scrape course and turned an old farmhouse into a clubhouse. The club held its first annual amateur meeting on the new course in 1959, when it measured 6065 yards with a par of 70. The present brick clubhouse was built by local tradesmen and member volunteers and opened in March 1987.

In the late 1980s members began building grass greens, and by 1993 the club had settled on its current layout: nine grass greens played from 18 tees, with the remaining sand scrape holes closed. From the 18 tees the course is par 70 for men and 71 for women. The fairways are watered and mown, and the course is managed and maintained by volunteers. An electric fence marks out of bounds on the 4th and 13th, where a track also crosses the course.

The green fee is $18 for nine or 18 holes, and $5 for students. Women play every Wednesday and men on Sundays, and a Sunday nine-hole competition has grown in popularity, with lunch served on the second Sunday of each month.

The clubhouse has a bar, kitchen, wood fire and a veranda looking over the course, and can be hired for functions. Contact the club at golfnathalia@gmail.com.
