About the course
Trafalgar Golf Club plays on a bushland block on Gibsons Road, 7 km north of the Trafalgar township in West Gippsland and about 90 minutes' drive from the Melbourne CBD. The club dates from 1909, when a nine-hole course with grass greens was laid out just south of the town, and it has played on four sites since. Members bought the present 100-acre property at auction in 1949, cleared it largely through working bees and completed 18 holes in 1958. In 1961 the club engaged Vern Morcom, long-serving head greenkeeper at Kingston Heath, who reworked many greens and tees; three bunkers from his plan were finally built in 2026.
The course is par 70 for men and par 72 for women, with couch greens and couch fairways, watered from on-site bores. It is not long, but tree-lined doglegs and sloping greens reward accuracy over power, and five of the holes are par 3s.
- 3rd: a risk-and-reward par 4 of up to 338 metres, with out of bounds on the right.
- 10th: a 531-metre par 5 that plays almost as a double dogleg to a small, back-to-front green.
Visitors and members' guests are welcome. Green fee play runs Sunday to Thursday from 7am, and after 1:15pm on Friday and Saturday once competitions are done. Fees are $40 for 18 holes and $25 for nine; motorised carts are $45 for 18 holes and $25 for nine and should be reserved by phone, pull buggies are free and club hire is $5. Book by phone or online; out of hours, pay online, by QR code or at the honesty box. Visitors with a Golf Link number can generally enter competitions, including the Friday open men's and women's event.
The clubhouse, open daily, has a licensed bar, snacks, tea and coffee, seating for 100 and a covered barbecue area, with hot food on Fridays and Saturdays.
