About the course
Warragul Country Club, in Sutton Street, Warragul, began as Warragul Golf Club at a meeting of 13 golfers in March 1907 and opened that June. After spells on leased land and on Killarney, a 400-acre property east of the town, it moved to its present home in 1926, where Syd Bennett designed an 18-hole course. Club professional George Lowe redesigned the layout after the Second World War, when land was lost to Housing Commission acquisition, and George Naismith and Kevin Hartley later altered the front nine. The present clubhouse opened in 1995 and was renovated in 2014, and since 2021 the club has hosted the Gippsland Super 6, a PGA Australasian Tour event.
The 18-hole course is tree-lined; Roy Ross, president in the 1920s and 1930s, personally chose the original trees. The 12th is a strong par 5 and the longest hole on the course.
Visitors book online after registering free as a public member, or through the pro shop on (03) 5623 2353; social golfers should confirm course availability first. Players entering competitions need a GA handicap and membership of a golf club, and children aged 9 to 12 must be with an adult for social golf. Carts and clubs can be hired, though cart drivers must be 18 or over. The club's published green fee list is dated January 2025, so confirm current rates when booking. Social group packages with golf and a barbecue are available. On course, neat golf attire is expected: no singlets, board shorts, work boots, thongs or metal spikes, though clean denim is allowed.
The pro shop has three PGA professionals, TrackMan club fitting and repairs, and lessons seven days in an indoor teaching area or on the practice fairway. The Fairways Bistro serves lunch daily and dinner Tuesday to Sunday, and the clubhouse also has an all-day cafe, a sports bar with TAB and a members' lounge opening onto a covered alfresco area.
Green fees
After 4pm 18 holes $32.50; cart $45 (18) midweek; register free to book online. Junior (under 18) $12.50 (holes not stated).
