About the course
Eastwood Golf Club is in Kilsyth, about 40 kilometres east of the Melbourne CBD in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. The club was founded in 1955 by Ringwood orchardist John Wedge, who built a nine-hole course himself on hilly, wooded land in Longview Road, East Ringwood, after professionals told him the site was too small. Work on the present Liverpool Road site began in November 1963, members moved across in October 1964 when only six holes were open, and the 18-hole course opened for play in October 1966. The current clubhouse opened in June 1991.
The par 72 course measures just over 6000 metres on 48 hectares and is a clay-belt layout that rewards shot shaping. It opens with a 368-metre par 4 that doglegs left, with water short and left of the green, and finishes with a 280-metre par 4 that longer hitters can reach, played to a two-tiered green.
Visitors are welcome seven days a week, subject to availability, and bookings are essential: register online and book a tee time, or call the golf shop. Members' guests with a handicap can enter club competitions when places are available. Neat casual dress applies on the course and practice areas, with collared shirts and closed-toe golf shoes or runners; denim, tracksuit pants and work wear are not allowed.
Practice facilities include a full driving range, warm-up nets, a chipping green with bunker and two putting greens. The golf shop has PGA professionals offering lessons and coaching. The club also has two lawn bowls greens, a function room overlooking the course, a members' lounge and a bistro serving lunch from Tuesday and dinner on Thursday and Friday.
Green fees
Weekend and public holiday $85 for 18 and $50 for nine; junior golf $20; bookings essential, book online or call the golf shop.
